Lost Spaces | Bozar Brussels

Lefkosia, Cyprus’s capital, remains Europe’s last divided city. Since 1974, a UN-controlled Buffer Zone has cut through its historic centre, leaving homes and businesses abandoned for decades. This VR experience offers a rare glimpse into three emblematic spaces within this restricted area, guided by the memories of those who once lived there. An invitation to reflect on a city shaped by separation and time. Lost Spaces is part of the Cultural Programme of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.

Additional Information

This virtual reality project was developed using advanced photogrammetry and 3D reconstruction to document the abandoned sites within the UN Buffer Zone in Cyprus. Visitors can explore the Ledra Palace Hotel's surroundings, the Maple House, and the historic streets of Nicosia that have been frozen in time since 1974. The project highlights the role of digital heritage in peacebuilding and reconciliation.
